Cookies Policy

This Cookies Policy explains how Zuzefu ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies on this website. Zuzefu provides a mobile application for tracking student expenses, and this website is where we present the application and invite visitors to get in touch. We have written this policy in plain language so that you can understand exactly what is stored on your device and why, and how you can stay in control of it.

Zuzefu is based at 13 Wake Green Road, Birmingham, B32 0FZ, United Kingdom, and this policy is written in accordance with the law that applies in the United Kingdom, in particular the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, tablet or mobile phone when you visit it. They allow the website to remember information about your visit, such as your preferences. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of the site.

Cookies can be "first-party", meaning they are set by the website you are visiting, or "third-party", meaning they are set by another organisation whose services are used on that website.

2. The legal basis for our use of cookies

Under PECR, we must obtain your consent before storing information on your device or accessing information already stored there, unless the cookie is strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested. Where cookies involve the processing of personal data, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 also apply, and the standard of consent is the one set out in those laws: it must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous, and given by a clear affirmative action.

3. The cookie this website sets

We keep our use of cookies deliberately minimal. This website sets one cookie only. It is described below.

Cookie name Type Purpose Duration Set by
cookie_consent Essential (first-party) Stores the choice you make in our cookie banner, so that we remember whether you have accepted or declined optional cookies and do not ask you again on every page. One year Zuzefu

We do not set any other cookies on this website. In particular, we do not use analytics cookies, we do not use session cookies, and we do not use security or form-protection cookies of any kind. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent before any new cookie is set.

4. Essential and optional cookies

Essential cookies

Essential cookies are those that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for, or to make the website respect your choices. They do not require your consent under PECR. The cookie_consent cookie falls into this category: without it, we would be unable to remember your decision about optional cookies, and you would be asked again every time you loaded a page. It contains no information that identifies you personally; it records only your consent choice.

Optional cookies

Optional cookies are those that are not strictly necessary for the website to function. These include cookies used for advertising and for measuring the effectiveness of advertising. We only allow these to operate if you have given your consent, and they are never active before you have made a choice. Declining optional cookies does not reduce your ability to read this website or to contact us.

5. Advertising measurement and third-party advertising cookies

This website does not carry advertising banners and does not run analytics on visitor behaviour. However, we may measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns, and this is handled as follows:

Third-party advertising cookies are controlled by the providers who set them, and their use is governed by those providers' own policies. We recommend that you read the privacy information of any provider whose service you encounter. You can also manage advertising preferences through your browser settings, as explained below.

6. How to change or withdraw your consent

You are in control, and withdrawing consent should be as easy as giving it. You can do any of the following at any time:

Withdrawing your consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it.

7. Your rights

Where any personal data is processed in connection with cookies, you have rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. These include the right to be informed, to access your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased in certain circumstances, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in section 9. We will respond within one month, in line with the law.

8. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have used cookies or handled your personal data, we would welcome the chance to put things right, so please contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office, the supervisory authority for data protection in the United Kingdom.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time, for example if we change the cookies we use or if the law changes. The most recent version will always be published on this page. Where a change affects the way optional cookies are used, we will ask for your consent again before relying on it.
